We have now been officially registered as a UK charity! Click here to see! The is fantastic news for everyone involved, and eventually means that we will be able to claim Gift Aid in due course, which is great for UK tax payers.

Bridget is between 12 and 13 years old (her grandmother didn’t have any information about her except her baptism card which dates back to 2002). Both her parents died of AIDS but her grandmother doesn't remember exactly when. Bridget is in Primary 4 and should be in Primary 7. She is three years behind at school because of her need to work. She works every day in the field growing vegetables to provide for her grandmother. She gets her clothes from neighbours as she cannot afford to buy her own. We found her neglected, carrying a large water can from the well and finding firewood to cook. She has had to cook and maintain the household. She didn’t have a bed to sleep in - she has been sleeping on a foam mat on the floor. Check out the profiles of some of the children we have taken into The Peace Centre. First hour after registration! All children received a bag thanks again to Converse for donating these!), some clothes and a blanket for their first night. Some already looking happy (and believe me, it's not always easy to get Ugandans to smile for a photo!) Amos, Daudi, Alex and Moses on their first night having fun being silly in front of me (a "muzungu” or foreigner) and eating their meal. :O) Photo looks blurry as there was no electricity... First night at TPC. - singing and dancing :O) All of them seemed really happy already on their first day! Peace leading the dance. No electricity as the electricity is cut almost every night from 6pm. TPC opened the doors to the orphans on Feb 2nd 2015, and Feb 3rd 2015 they were already going back to school! Some of the girls’ rooms (we have 5 rooms for girls, 5 for boys).
Some children were brought to the Centre with no belongings whatsoever :O( Very exciting news - we're open!!! A massive thank you and big respect must go to Peace and Golden who have worked tirelessly to get us to this stage :) :) :)
More news and photos coming soon... keep posted! |
